I’ll have you know, I struggled with anxiety and copious overthinking for a long time!
Initially, I worked hard to resolve it on my own. Isn’t this what we’re supposed to do?? At least for me, the whole asking for help thing didn’t translate, so I pursued every strategy under the sun to feel (and look) okay. Early morning workouts followed by journaling and meditating. Supplements & dietary implements. Training after training after training — I had high hopes that each one — especially, a Master’s in Positive Psychology, AKA the study of happiness! — would finally give me the tools to be comfortable in my own skin. Did I need to recreate the story of Eat, Pray, Love in order to find joy in life again? Thankfully, I could do something simpler, but still pretty frickin’ radical:

We’ll meet weekly or biweekly (your choice) via Zoom, or in-person if you live on the Big Island.

What do you mean by "heal my nervous system?"
My coaching approach is influenced by the healing methodologies of trauma-safe mindfulness and Organic Intelligence® (OI™). Because of the complex challenges and traumas we've experienced over the years, it’s easy to get stuck in patterns of fight, flight, or freeze. For example, if you find yourself stuck in a state of indecision or inaction, your nervous system may be defaulting to a freeze response. In OI, we don’t see these survival states as bad or wrong, however. Rather, we understand, even appreciate, the importance of each nervous system state, and use this information to support the biology's natural trajectory of healing.
What is Organic Intelligence®?
Organic Intelligence (OI) "suggests that, from a systems perspective, what’s wrong with therapy is the focus on what’s wrong — including the focus on trauma. Organic Intelligence brings a necessary shift in perspective from pathology and trauma to the proven methods drawn from the wisdom of mindfulness and the science of self-organization. OI teaches how healing happens from the nervous system up and makes it possible to imagine freedom from suffering. Freedom from suffering becomes freedom for living an authentic, vibrant life in the here-and-now. OI has been taught to thousands of therapists worldwide, and honed over two decades of teaching and therapeutic work."
What is meant by trauma-safe coaching and healing?
I’m receiving professional training in Organic Intelligence, which is a modality that defines trauma as "unintegrated resource." While many trauma therapies may ask you to confront trauma or dig it out from its roots, OI works within a positive reinforcement framework that’s not exclusively focused on what’s wrong. It understands that deep healing and nervous system resilience is built first and foremost through key conditions, such as orientation, or connecting to the environment through the senses, as well as orientation to pleasure, or refamiliarizing yourself to that which is okay, even perhaps enjoyable. In essence, by not going down the rabbit hole of examining intense negative experiences over and over again, we lay the groundwork for healing to happen in a trauma-safe, deeply caring, sustainable, and, dare I say, enjoyable, way.
How is your approach to anxiety relief different from more traditional approaches?
Firstly, our work together is less about any one approach and more about you, a unique human with important needs and desires, as well as a clear biological expression that will help ease the path toward optimal growth and healing. I view your biology as your greatest resource - a strategy I was delighted to learn about from Organic Intelligence - and every suggestion I might make to aid your coping and healing is guided by this premise. For example, maybe you’ve been told that the best way to heal anxiety is to change the way you think or to feel the sensations directly. Together, we’ll explore which strategies will be most helpful given what your nervous system needs now. It’s quite possible your biology will show us a doorway that will have the most immediate and lasting effect on your confidence and well-being!
Can I purchase one or more sessions or do I need to buy the 6-session package?
You don’t need to purchase the 6-session package to work with me. It’s just the best value, especially if you want ongoing support. In any case, it’s best to book a free chat with me and we can assess if we’re a good fit. Then, we can customize a plan that’s right for you if we find out we are! Oh, and email suggestions as well as a few of the videos are included regardless of which package you purchase.
What about rescheduling, refunds, and cancellation policy?
If you know you need to reschedule a session, please do so 24 hours beforehand in order to avoid being charged the full amount. There are a few exceptions to this, which I outline in the agreement form you’ll complete before we officially begin. If you purchase a 6-session package, full and/or pro-rated refunds can be issued.
